Maersk Ends Nhava Sheva Congestion Surcharge

Maersk Line has lifted its congestion surcharge of $150 per 20-foot container imposed earlier on shipments to and from the Port of Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru),India.

The Danish carrier in a notice to customers said the congestion and delays that gripped the country’s largest container port over the past few weeks have subsided in recent days, allowing restoration of normal operations at the terminals.

P3 speeds will challenge other carriers

   In the latest issue of its Container Insight Weekly, Drewry said it expects the P3 carriers will "maintain and even improve average headhaul vessel speeds."


   Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM hope to begin operating the P3 Network on the Asia-Europe, transpacific and transatlantic trade lanes in the second quarter of 2014 following regulatory approval.

SHANGHAI Containerised Freight Index spot rates from Asia to the US east and west coasts continued to fall for a seventh week in the week ending November 1.

The Shanghai-US west coast spot rate fell 0.4 per cent, or US$7, from the previous week to $1,724 per FEU, according to SCFI data issued by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange. The US east coast rate slid 0.4 per cent to $3,099, having fallen $296 per FEU in the previous seven weeks.

Le Havre Welcomes First Call of Glovis Ro-Ro Ship

France’s Port of Le Havre has welcomed the maiden call of the Glovis Condor, a roll-on, roll-off vessel owned by Glovis, a South Korean company.

Glovis was originally an automotive logistics company, but recently expanded its business by entering into a tonnage agreement with Hoegh Autoliners. Under the deal, Hoegh Autoliners offers a shipping service in Middle East trade with one vessel per month, and Glovis manages the operations with Marmedsa as the shipping agents. The Glovis Condor arrived at Le Havre’s ro-ro terminal for the first time as part of the service.

OOCL to hike rates on Asia-Europe route

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) will raise shipping rates on its key Asia to Europe route from September, reported Dow Jones Newswires.

It plans to increase freight rates by US$500 per TEU for all westbound shipments from Asia to North Europe, the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
