Asia-Pacific Air Cargo Demand Declined in June

 

 

The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines's preliminary traffic figures for June showed air cargo demand continued to be weak.

Asia-Pacific international air cargo demand, measured in freight metric ton kilometers, recorded a 2.2 percent decrease compared to June 2012, reflecting continued weakness in key export markets. Offered freight capacity increased slightly, inching up 0.3 percent, leading to a 1.7 percentage point decline in the average international air cargo load factor to 66.2 percent.

Air cargo markets remained depressed with Asian airlines reporting a 2.4 percent decline in freight traffic for the first six months of the year, reflecting persistent weakness in global trade conditions, said Andrew Herdman, AAPA director general, in a written statement.
